How to Feel Less Drained and More Energized Every Day

Imagine waking up every day feeling energized, unstoppable, and ready to take on anything life throws at you. Sounds like a dream, right? But what if it’s more attainable than you think? By making a few intentional changes, you can transform your energy and start living with purpose and vitality.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you feel less drained and more energized, inspired by lessons I learned when I hit my own low point and decided to take control.

Step 1: Create Your Environment

Set up a distraction-free zone where you can reflect and think deeply. Writing things down with pen and paper instead of typing creates a stronger connection to your thoughts and makes the process more impactful. This space and method will help you focus and engage fully in the work.

Step 2: Write Down 10 People You Admire

List 10 people who inspire you—family, friends, public figures, or even fictional characters. These are people who’ve made a meaningful impact on your life. This step helps you identify the qualities you value most in others, which often reflect your own aspirations.

Step 3: Identify Their Traits

For each person, write down one standout trait you admire and why it matters to you. For example, my mom’s incredible organization inspired me to value structure in my life, while James Lawrence’s resilience showed me the power of perseverance. This step offers clarity on the traits you respect and want to develop in yourself.

Step 4: Find Patterns

Look for recurring traits across the people on your list. These patterns reveal the core values that resonate with you, providing insight into your identity and guiding your personal growth.

Step 5: Define Your Top 5 Traits

From the traits you admire, narrow it down to your top five. These traits define who you are or who you want to be. Share them with someone close to you—chances are they’ll agree. If they don’t, it might be a sign to realign with your values.

Step 6: List Your "Cup Fillers"

What activities energize you and leave you feeling fulfilled? Whether it’s working out, spending time with friends, or diving into a creative hobby, write down at least five “cup fillers.” These are the things that recharge your mental and emotional batteries.

Step 7: Identify Your "Cup Drainers"

Now, list five activities that drain your energy—things that leave you feeling depleted. It could be anything from traffic to a messy house. Being aware of these energy-draining activities helps you manage or reduce their impact.

Step 8: Calculate Your Ratio

Determine how often you engage in your “cup fillers” and “cup drainers” each week. Seeing the balance—or imbalance—between the two helps you understand your current energy dynamics and what needs adjustment.

Step 9: Adjust and Align

If your cup fillers are outnumbered by your cup drainers, it’s time to make a change. Add more energizing activities, reduce draining ones, or adjust your perspective on things you can’t control. Small, consistent tweaks can make a big difference in how you feel.

A Final Thought: Embrace Imperfection

Not all cup drainers need to be eliminated. Sometimes, they play a meaningful role in your life. Like the monk who carried a leaky water bucket to nourish flowers along the path, your challenges can create beauty and growth when approached with a full cup.

Feeling energized isn’t just a dream—it’s something you can intentionally cultivate. Start with these steps today and see how they transform your energy, your mindset, and your life.

Keep going my friend,

Coach Royce
